Contains photographs, travel documents, passports, and passenger lists resulting from Martin's trip from Boston, Mass. to Neuilly-sur-Seine, France in 1915 to serve as an operating nurse in the Harvard Unit of the American Ambulance Service. Also includes several photographs of Harvey Cushing, George Benet, Elliott Carr Cutler, Robert Osgood, and Robert Greenough.

Harvey Williams Cushing was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 8, 1869. He graduated from Yale College in 1891 and in 1895 received his M.D. and A.M. degrees from the Harvard Medical School. He served on the staff of the Johns Hopkins University Hospital from 1901 to 1912, where he devoted himself to neurological surgery. Elliott Carr Cutler (1888-1947), AB, 1909, Harvard College; MD, 1913, Harvard Medical School, was appointed Moseley Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Surgeon-in-Chief of Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in 1932. Cutler was one of the first surgeons to work on the human heart; he inserted an instrument into the left ventricle, dividing the stenosed mitral valve in 1923, a procedure that later became common practice as a treatment for rheumatic heart disease. Geraldine Kemmis Martin was a nurse and an assistant to Dr. Harvey Cushing during World War I in 1915 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France.
